Big Wave Season Has Officially Opened! So What's Next?

Keep an eye out, because any day now, the swells could grow to the point where the Tudor Nazaré Big Wave Challenge in Nazaré, Portugal is a GO ! The waiting period began on November 1st, and what this means is that the World Surf League will be carefully watching the waters around Nazaré for key indicators when it comes to the volume and size of the waves, the wind, and the level of fog in the area. If all these indicators are ideal for a sustained period of time, then the WSL will move into a Green phase from a Yellow phase. When this happens, Surfers, sponsors, journalists, and spectators will have a 24-hour window to drop everything and rush to the site of the competition to prepare for the Tudor Nazaré Big Wave Challenge.
