NEW DESIGN AND AESTHETIC

The new edition of the Black Bay 58 builds on the 2018 release and retains all the core design elements from TUDOR throughout the ages. The case design and overall aesthetic has been updated. At first glance it’s easy to see that the text on the dial has been reduced to two lines in line with TUDOR’s Master Chronometer certified watches, but upon closer inspection you’ll notice pinched hands at the base and a new bezel and crown design.

INSPIRED BY HERITAGE

The Black Bay 58 is named after the year in which the first TUDOR divers’ watch waterproof to 200 metres, the reference 7924, dubbed the “Big Crown”, was introduced. Among other aesthetic allusions to this famous historic watch, this model has a 39mm diameter case, in keeping with the characteristic proportions of the 1950s.

This edition of the Black Bay 58 retains all the core design elements from TUDOR throughout the ages and includes aesthetic notes from a prototype TUDOR Submariner ref. 79190 developed in the ‘90s. The watch boasted a brilliant burgundy dial with a matching bezel. It never saw production, but this design now lives on in the form of Black Bay 58.

MASTER CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION

The Black Bay 58 gets the Master Chronometer certification, one of the industry's most demanding standards in terms of chronometry and resistance to magnetic fields. Each fully assembled watch is tested in Switzerland by the Federal Institute of Metrology or METAS. To tie the whole package together, the new Black Bay 58 is now available on a 5-link bracelet, a 3-link bracelet, or a rubber strap. All three have TUDOR’s rapid adjustment system known as T-fit, making the watch more wearable than ever before.

MATT GOLD AND “GOLDEN GREEN” TONES

Entirely satin-finished for a matt effect, the 18 ct yellow gold case is another first for a TUDOR divers' watch. An open case back reveals the new Manufacture Calibre MT5400. The matt 18 ct yellow gold of the Black Bay 58 18K is emphasised by the combination of dial and bezel, which are a rich “golden green” in tone with matt gold details. A colour palette fittingly matched by the fabric strap offered with this model, complete with 18 ct yellow gold buckles.

SOLID GOLD BRACELET

Another first for a TUDOR diving watch, the Black Bay 58 18K now comes with a solid gold 3-link bracelet featuring the TUDOR “T-fit” clasp, an ingenuous system for rapid length adjustment. Easy to use, requiring no tools and offering five positions, this practical touch allows wearers to carry out a fine, instant adjustment of the total length of the bracelet along an adjustment window of 8mm. The clasp features ceramic ball bearings that ensure a smooth and secure closure in addition to adding a pleasing tactile element to the action of the clasp.

Black Bay 58 925

The Black Bay remains one of TUDOR’s most recognized and recognizable lines. In the Black Bay 58, the case offers the proportions of a 39mm case with a thinner profile. The bidirectional rotatable bezel offers very prehensible sides and its insert shows subtly curved numerals aligning with the outline of the outer ring. The seconds hand recalls the look of the early diving watches of the brand with a lollipop design.

A SILVER VERSION

TUDOR is also launching a unique version of its popular Black Bay 58 model in 925 silver – a first for a TUDOR divers' watch, and creating a surprising incandescence.

THE MANUFACTURE CALIBRE MT5402

The Manufacture Calibres MT5400 and MT5402 which power the Black Bay 58 models, display hour, minute and second functions. They show the finish typical of TUDOR Manufacture Calibres. Their builds have been designed to ensure robustness, longevity, reliability and precision, as has a variable inertia balance, which is maintained by a sturdy traversing bridge with a two-point fixation. Together with their non-magnetic silicon hairsprings, the Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and MT5402 are certified as chronometers by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), with performances going beyond the standards set by this independent institute.

Another notable feature is that the power reserve of both these calibres is "weekend-proof"; that is to say about 70 hours, which enables the wearer to take the watch off on a Friday evening and put it back on again on Monday morning without having to reset it.

A CHOICE OF BRACELET AND STRAPS

The Black Bay 58 comes with a choice of a riveted steel bracelet with polished and satin finish, a leather or “soft touch” strap with folding clasp, or a fabric strap. One of TUDOR’s signature features, the fabric strap is made using the Jacquard technique, a traditional method achieved by a 150-year-old family business from the St-Etienne region of France.
